Areas of Expertise

My medical expertise is informed by the diverse settings in which I have practiced psychiatry. This includes women’s mental health programs, intensive outpatient programs, emergency departments, inpatient psychiatric units, academic specialty medical centers, and college counseling centers.

General Adult Psychiatry

I see adults - ages 18 to 65 - of all genders. Having completed psychiatry residency in Washington, DC, I have worked with adults from all walks of life.

Diagnoses I treat include:

  • Adjustment Disorder

  • Anxiety Disorder

  • Depression, Bipolar disorder, and other mood disorders

  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder

You do not need to have a formal diagnosis to benefit from working with a psychiatrist. I work with patients who struggle to cope with daily life, excessive worry, difficult life transitions, grief, and bereavement.

Reproductive Psychiatry

The reproductive period is a time that is characterized by hormonal flux and significant social role change. I am experienced in treating women with symptoms, stressors, or concerns while navigating the changes across a woman’s reproductive cycle. This includes:

  • Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder

  • Premenstrual Mood and Anxiety Exacerbations

  • Treatment - including safe medication management - before, during, or after pregnancy or while breastfeeding

  • Fertility Challenges

  • Pregnancy Loss

  • Traumatic Birth Experience

  • Perimenopausal Symptoms

Services

  • Psychiatric Evaluation

The psychiatric evaluation is the foundation of your mental health treatment. During this comprehensive assessment, we discuss current symptoms as well as review your medical, psychiatric, and psychosocial history. We will then work together to develop a customized, evidence-based treatment plan that is a good fit.

  • Medication Management

With experience in the diagnosis and treatment of a wide variety of psychiatric issues, I work with you to determine a psychopharmacology treatment plan that is both effective and individualized. This may mean initiating medications, tapering off medications, or exploring alternative interventions.

  • Second Opinion Consultation

Perhaps you have had a previous diagnosis or are unsure about a current diagnosis. Perhaps you would like the expertise of a reproductive psychiatrist as you navigate a new stage of your life. I provide consultation services and collaborate with your current care team to recommend a plan of care that is tailored to you. This may mean working with your current therapist or psychiatrist, obstetrician, midwife, or other specialists.

  • Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy or ‘talk therapy’ can help change behavior and overcome problems in desired ways to increase well-being and healing. I use a combination of therapeutic modalities, including psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, and mindfulness-based techniques. Psychotherapy is often used in combination with medication or other interventions.

Of Note

Due to federal regulations for prescribing of controlled substances over telemedicine (Ryan Haight Act), I do not prescribe controlled medications. Thus, if you are looking for a provider for those specific medications, we may not be the best fit. I encourage you to reach out for a phone consultation if you are unsure.

Examples of controlled medications are:

  • Stimulants for ADHD such as Ritalin, Adderall, Vyvanse

  • Benzodiazepines such as Xanax, Ativan, Klonopin

  • Sleep medications such as Ambien, Lunesta, Sonata
